What if compression refining could help you save on your energy consumption whilst maintaining the performance of your paper and board?
Faced with rising energy costs and increasingly stringent decarbonization requirements, manufacturers in the paper, board and tissue industries need to find alternatives that effectively address the challenges of competitiveness, energy efficiency and the circular economy. Our objective: to provide a more sustainable and efficient alternative to conventional refining, tailored to the specific requirements of the paper, board and tissue industries.
CTP has developed a compression refining technology that rethinks the way cellulosic fibres are treated. Unlike conventional refining, which is primarily based on shear forces, this approach favours compression forces to improve fibre flexibility, preserve fibre length and limit the generation of fines.
Initial pilot trials have already demonstrated:
- Improved pulp drainage
- Higher sheet permeability
- Enhanced mechanical properties
- 15–25% savings in electricity consumption and around 15% lower gas consumption in the dryer section
- An estimated economic benefit of €15–20 per tonne produced
- The potential to reduce the use of certain chemical additives and incorporate higher proportions of recycled fibres or annual plant fibres
