🌱 What if your biomass contained far more value than you think?

In lignocellulosic biomass, cellulose is only part of the story. Resins, terpenes, polyphenols, tannins, sterols, fatty acids, lignin… all these naturally occurring compounds can become high-value co-products, provided they can be properly identified, quantified and valorized.

For over 25 years, CTP has been supporting industrial partners in the comprehensive characterization of biomass, fibers, pulps and co-products, helping them make the right decisions from the earliest stages of process development or optimization. Our expertise covers chemical composition (cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, minerals and extractives), material structure, as well as the characterization of black liquors and industrial process streams.

But our key added value lies in our expertise in extractives analysis. Through our analytical platforms (ASE, GC-FID/MS, HPLC, ICP, etc.), we identify and quantify bio-based molecules that can potentially be recovered and valorized: tall oil, turpentine, polyphenols, resins, fatty acids, sterols, lignins and more. We also assess their economic potential, the performance of recovery processes and opportunities to develop new value chains.

Beyond analytical characterization, CTP supports its partners through to validation on industrial pilot-scale equipment, helping secure technical choices before large-scale implementation. Our objective is simple: to turn every biomass into a higher-value resource, improving industrial performance while creating new revenue streams.
The best biomass is not always the least expensive one. It is often the one from which you know how to extract the most value.
