The traditional ATIP-COPACEL Paper Days, took place in Paris on 8 and 9 December. A stand, a technical conference in the programme, the CTP was present at this event! But it was above all a file in the “Palmes de l'Innovation” competition that made our teams proud, as it was rewarded with SILVER! Indeed, this competition is a real springboard for the promotion and development of paper processes and technologies! Participation is exclusively reserved for the companies present, schools, universities and research centres. About ten companies were competing in this year's Palme, most of them suppliers to our industry... and the CTP was pleasantly surprised to receive the Silver Palme for its innovation in cooperation with Pellenc ST and Citeo. Well done to all!

SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
"Joint use of visible and NIR spectroscopies to improve the quality of de-inking / packaging recovery flows".

In order to obtain a recovered raw material of optimal quality for paper manufacturers using these resources, it is necessary to have efficient automatic sorting tools, in particular for the identification and separation of packaging boards and papers to be deinked. To this end, the CTP worked with Pellenc ST, one of the world leaders in optical sorting machines, in partnership with Citeo. The main innovation of this project was to use both visible (whiteness, colours, brighteners, etc.) and near infrared (composition, fillers, etc.) information in order to separate the cardboard categories (brown, coated, as well as others that were not previously addressed, such as whites and greys) from the paper categories (newspapers, magazines, office paper) as effectively as possible. In addition, the use of new approaches in Artificial Intelligence now makes it possible to envisage the implementation of these innovative and efficient algorithms in Pellenc ST sorting machines, in order to greatly improve the quality of raw materials for paper recyclers, both for the packaging and the graphics industries.
