UST’s Manager: Michèle BOUCLIER
Objectives
Provide papermakers with tools destined to upgrade the paper material, in particular from viewpoint of criteria linked to sustainable development, hygiene, food-contact and health.
Competences
Routine chemical analyses and development of methods in analytical chemistry (waters/effluents, sludge, components of woods, pulps, papers). Systematic Microbiology – Biochemical analyses. Molecular biology. Ecotoxicology, phytotoxicity. Sensory analysis. ISO 9000, 14000, BPF, PEFC referentials.
Environmental regulations and food-contact materials.
Activity
The production of pulps, papers and boards is carried out in the framework of increasing constraining regulations: this implies a permanent adaptation of processes and products and subsequently, necessitate to evidence the compliance with various regulations (environmental and health). The specific UST develops a range of activities destined to helps industrials in complying with the whole obligations.
Routine and tailor-made analyses (chemistry, microbiology, sensory analyses).
Development of methods of analytical and microbiological chemistry: pulps, papers, boards, effluents and by-products.
Expertise in the field of chemical products employed in papermaking. Monitoring for the future of chemicals used in papermaking, in the environment and in the products manufactured. Study of their influence in health.
Understanding of biological scaling phenomena. Role of filamentous bacteria.
Studies of impacts on water; Studies of sanitary impacts. Club MCAS’ Reference Laboratory. Aid in implementing management systems for Quality/Environment, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Certifications: suitability for food contact, PEFC (Chain of Custody Verification).
