ISO/TC6 laboratories... for the best optical properties!

Work together to be better!

The Centre Technique du Papier has participated as every 18 months to an ISO OPAL (Optical Properties Authorized Laboratory) meeting under the responsibility of the Chairperson of ISO TC 6 (Technical Committee on paper, pulp and paperboard) and the convenor of ISO/TC6/WG3 (Working Group on optical properties). This year, discussions were held on October 11 and 12 at FP Innovations, in Pointe Claire, Canada. The CTP and its 4 colleagues , FPInnovations (Canada), Innventia (Sweden), Labtium (Finland) et Technidyne Corporation (USA)  have reviewed procedures implemented and results of interlaboratory comparisons performed on a regular basis between all participants in order to maintain a high level of agreement between laboratories.

NaMiCell... a new way to use cellulose!

What's NaMiCell?

NaMiCell is a Pilot platform allowing to study how to produce micro/nano fibrils of cellulose from lignocellulosic materials and to produce batches of MFC/NFC for your own evaluation....This seminar will provide you the answers to your most critical questions:
· What are micro/nano fibrils of cellulose?
· What technology behind this product?
· What applications can be considered?
· Is this technology mature for industrial up scaling?

Pulp producers, papermakers, converters, printers, panelboard producers, wood product manufacturers, wood painting and preservative producers, R&D managers, project leaders and scientists, you are invited to:
- Discover the basics of Micro/Nano celluloses thanks to lectures;
- Figure out the up scaling of the technology thanks to demonstration;
- Exchange with speakers and attendees.

A special preface for the CTP 2010 Annual Report!

Erik Orsenna
Writer and economist.
Member of the Académie Française

" I remember meeting a man in Montreal last February. The chairman of the Canadian forestry industry federation (and therefore a man of authority), he was speaking to local papermakers. They were anxious: what was to become of them with the crisis facing the newspaper industry? He spoke to them at length about trees. He said that they were under-used treasures. He said that trees could give more, much more than at present. He said it was just a question of asking, and to ask them, we had to get to know them better. In a word, he announced a fantastic biomass research programme.  I am pleased – and hardly surprised – to see that Grenoble is not to be outdone. I have been working for more than a year now on a book on paper, forests, recycling, the circular economy, etc. I am convinced, on the basis of the many contacts and trips I have made recently, that green carbon is one of the most promising new frontiers. And most necessary. And I am also certain, on the basis of my experience, that Grenoble will be the primary driving force for progress in Europe in this field. Take a careful look at this visionary report from the CTP. It is a passport to a future that is not only dynamic but also more effectively controlled. "

New: an anti-Wi-Fi/GSM wallpaper!

Wish to insulate your home or your company from GSM or WI-FI waves? Here is the solution! A team from the Centre Technique du Papier developed the METAPAPER, a wallpaper whose patented patterns, printed with a conductive ink, specifically filter the frequencies such as 0.9, 1.8 and 2.1 GHz (GSM) or 2.45 and 5.5 GHz (Wi-Fi). Metapaper is a printed electronic application sprang from CTP research and partners’, IMEP-LAHC laboratories, LCIS and from the collaboration of Ahlstrom industry. This wallpaper – which can be an under-layer to recover – is the solution to attenuate strongly the undesired electromagnetic wavelengths, it lets other waves pass through such as those of the FM radio or TV. It can be integrated into plaster-board, wood or into floor-covering. Generally used as wall-covering it enables to protect a public space (meeting rooms, cinemas and theatres, hospitals, restaurants, children’s bedrooms, etc.). The IMEP-LAHC anechoid chamber enabled to measure its efficiency within the development project framework in which Ahlstrom is partner.
